About Us

Cultures for Youth (formerly Cultures for Kids) is an Illinois not-for-profit volunteer organization that promotes tolerance by sharing knowledge of world cultures with youth of all social and economic backgrounds. This is done through projects such as interactive presentations and classes on the art, dance, government, history, instruments, music, period dress, religion, rituals and social behaviors, of various cultures. Hula class at Gorton Center.To date, Cultures for Youth has introduced more than 3,000 young people from around the world to the American, West African, Native American, Byzantine, Chinese, Native Hawaiian, Medieval and Modern English, Ethiopian, Ancient and Modern Greek, Indian, Italian, Japanese, Minoan, Pakistani, Roman, Serbian, Turkish, and other cultures.

Projects include a cultural fair for schoolchildren, summer cultural camp sessions, monthly cultural presentations, dance troupe performances, tours of ancient Minoan ruins, a cultural sharing project at the Olympic Games and fundraising for other organizations that benefit children from diverse backgrounds. All projects are implemented by the youth volunteers of Cultures for Youth who learn about cultures and gain their training through formal studies, immersion, discussions, travel, and other unique experiences.
